Historic Home for the Holidays Tour

Christmas 2019 at Pheasant Run

Last fall we were approached by the beautiful and talented Rebecca Pyper to open our home for the second annual Historic Homes for the Holidays Tour. We had thoroughly enjoyed the tour last year and seeing the homes with their unique designs and decor. Curtis and I commented about the sense of community and Christmas Spirit we felt as we were warmly welcomed into homes we had admired and being able to meet the faces inside them. We especially appreciated the fact that all the proceeds benefited charity.

The day Rebecca stopped by the house, we were preparing to host a wedding in the barn AND we were in the demolition phase of our master bedroom/bath remodel. Originally, our goal was to have the remodel completed by the end of Christmas break. The thoughts of completing the remodel and having the rest of the house ready for a tour by December 6th seemed daunting!

Curtis worked on the bathroom every evening after work until late into the night and every weekend. I spent my time cleaning, organizing, and decorating both the house and the barn. All in all, we hung dozens of wreaths, yards of garland, hundreds of lights, and decorated 11 trees. By 4 PM, December 6th, when the first tour goers arrived, we were washing out paint brushes and there was the distinct smell of fresh glue from the shower glass installation. . . . but, we made it!

The Gathering Barn is magical at Christmas time!

There's just something about a rustic barn that warms our hearts in remembrance of the sacred birth in a humble stable, so many years ago. For this reason, we love sharing the barn this time of year.

In addition to the home tour, we were happy to book several Christmas parties and large family photo shoots.

The cherry on top of this whole experience for me was being invited to join Rebecca as she delivered the check for $10,003.05 to Promise Ridge, a wonderful program that helps homeless mothers in our community get back on their feet and build better futures for their families.

Thank you Rebecca Pyper and thank you my Southeast Idaho community for supporting an event that helps us to draw closer as neighbors as we love and serve one another.

Whitewash is simply a mixture of lime and water that was painted on houses, barns and outbuildings as a cheap and easy way to make them look attractive and clean, while providing an antibacterial finish that was resistant to mold, mildew, and weathering.

Sweet Sixteen

On December 31st, our baby girl turned 16! It doesn't seem possible, but the gray hair and wrinkles tell me it's true. For her birthday gift, she asked if we could please, finally, finish her bedroom.
